Stroud Sash Windows

Stroud has been my home for many years from the young age of 12. It has been a pleasure living and growing up in this beautiful part of the Cotswolds, from the red brick terraces of Bath road and Slad Road. To the quiet secluded Avening and the more modern communities in Bussage and Stonehouse. Recently we find ourselves nestled in our family home in Brimscombe in the bottom of the Chalford valley.

Stroud is a famous market town full of character, with its cobbled high street, Farmers Market, and Shambles Market. It is home to some fantastic independent shops such as Made in Stroud, Trading Post Records, and Sunshine, the perfect stop for a vegetable samosa. Also home to my favorite Italian restaurant Sorento’s, my personal dish of choice being the Spaghetti Allo Scoglio.

Home of the Five Valleys, Stroud has some fantastic area’s of country side to explore. My recent passion for trail running has opened up a huge network of footpaths to explore. Some of the famous connecting routes include the Cotswold Way and Wysis Way. From the rolling hillside viewed from the valleys of Sheepscombe and Painswick, to the woodland trails of Sapperton, Toadsmoor, and Chalford Valley. Come rain or Shine I feel blessed to live in such a beautiful area.

Famous buildings in Stroud with sash windows include the Subscription Rooms and The Museum in the Park. We have had the pleasure of repairing, renovating, and restoring many sash windows in Stroud and the surrounding areas.

Above we had the pleasure of completing a sash window refurbishment by repairing, draught-proofing, and painting the windows on this wonderful house on Bisley Old Road, steeped in history, and a prominent building in the early history of the area. This particular ground floor sash window is one of the more unusual sash windows we have had the pleasure of restoring to its former glory. As you can see this is a single sliding sash within a sash window box. Normally they consist of two sliding sash’s, a bottom sash to move up, and top sash to move down. This single sliding sash is a floor to ceiling sash window, as you lift the sash it moves up through the cavity in the first floor divide and moves into the sash box surround of window above. An unusual design we have been able to preserve for the next generation to enjoy its charm and character.

Above we have an example of my personal favorite combination of a red brick home with crisp, clean, elegant sash windows. My love of this combination ties together my family roots to a northern red brick town with my chosen profession and area of expertise in sash window repair, renovation, and restoration. This is a lovely semi detached red brick property nestled on the hillside of Brimscombe Hill in Stroud with fantastic views overlooking the valley. On this project we replaced a number of sash window cills to the rear of the property, restored, and painted all the windows with our expert restoration skills, and finished with some fantastic Benjamin Moore Paint. The final touch was the sash window renovation part of the project, re-hanging and fitting the windows with the Renosash sliding sash window draught-proofing system so the sash’s glide smoothly in the sash box, and as the name suggests reduce draught, and improve the thermal efficiency of the home.

Below we have a close up example of this beautiful combination. Freshly restored, fully operational sash window, in a red brick surround, Cotswold stone lintel, nestled in the garden hedges overlooking the valley. Stunning combination.
